Wooden spreader or step (IMPA Code 232011) is more often used than the rest because of quickly and easy renewal by crews. Aluminum alloy step was not often used due to higher cost for cargo ships. But now vessels choose different material and lengths according to their realistic needs. In a pilot ladder, the step length is 525mm and spreader 1800mm (IMPA code 232012). Both accessories have thickness of 25mm and width 115mm, which is a standard dimension of pilot ladders used on commercial vessels. Besides above ladder spare parts, we also have yellow magnet/magnetic pad, which is used to secure ladder on hull. Then the ladder will not move in severe weather, which protects pilots from falling.
