The Delta was developed in the 1980s for commercialization by British marine manufacturer Simpson–Lawrence. It is similar in shape to the plough anchor but does not articulate. Its unique shank profile and ballasted tip make the Delta anchor self-launching. The low centre of gravity and self-righting geometry ensure that the Delta anchor will set immediately. Delta anchor is mainly used in offshore industry. It has an open construction for smooth penetration in different kinds of soil and no rotation, which means no decrease of holding capacity and no dragging of the anchor.
