Why do we call it Panama Chock?
Panama chock is the one that satisfies Panama canal rules, which can be found in standard GB 11586 and ACP Rules.
Comparing with other chock fabricated per other standards such DIN, Panama chock is higher in Safe Working Load(SWL) and intensity of tension tensile strength. Lots of ship owners need a design book provided by ship designer at hand for precise references.
With Panama Canal well constructed, route from Pacific Ocean to east of America has been much simplified, and therefore, vessels passing Panama Canal have amazingly increased in number and tonnage. To adopt themselves to the comparatively narrow water way of Panama Canal, the maximum width of each vessel passing is therefore regulated. We called them Panamax. As Panamax is fairly closed to each part of canal, we need small rail cars on each side to drag it ahead. Panama chock is therefore generated for the purpose of higer towing capacity..
